Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations
Since 2010 when I started working in the Finnish Meteorological
Institute (FMI), I do global MHD simulations using mostly the Grand Unified
Magnetospherei-Ionosphere Coupling Simulation (GUMICS-4) code developed in the FMI. I support data analysis and validate the simulations. Validation means to compare simulation results of different codes with ground-based and spacecraft measurements. All verified and mathematically correct simulations provide different results using the same input parameters and similar mathematical solving methods. It is important to understand where the results of each code are
realistic.
Dayside magnetospheric transient events
Since 2002 when I started my PhD at the Wigner Research Centre for
Physics I study the dayside magnetospheric transient events. The phenomena are the results of the interaction of the solar wind and the bow shock. These events were observed at many magnetized and unmagnetized planets. The phenomena appear quite frequently and even during quiet solar wind conditions proving that the solar wind-magnetosphere interactions are very dynamic during even unperturbed solar wind conditions.
Instrumentation
From 2008 to 2010 I worked in the LPC2E with the data of the Waves of HIgh frequency and Sounder for Probing of Electron
density by Relaxation (WHISPER) instrument onboard Cluster spacecraft. I generated high-quality electron density data from its electrostatic wave measurements for scientific and calibration purposes. I calibrated the
Cluster Ion Sprectrometry
(CIS) Hot ion Analyser (HIA) and Composition Distribution
Function (CODIF), the Electron Drift Instrument (EDI), and the
Plasma Electron and Current Experiment (PEACE) instruments aboard Cluster. Later I also developed some data processing tools for Cluster measurements.
